"Time 'tis to discourse from the high seat.
By the well of Urd I silent sat,
I saw and meditated, I listened to men's words." - Havamal, 111
URD is an exploration of the darker aspects of paths to knowledge. It is the transverse across the common steps of veneration and divinity. URD follows the paths along the branches of the tree. And down into the underworld.
It is about the knowledge and power pulled in from the Utangarð - the wilds beyond the fire. And dredged up from the deepest cauldrons of memory. Ancient instruments and environmental recordings from important sites around the world, and forlorn spaces not so far away evoke a time embedded in our collective memory.
To that ends the style is heavily atmospheric and ambient infused metal. In addition to folk metal, URD is black metal as a left hand path expression of anti-culture ethos. URD is ritual.
At this time URD is:
John Harford - Artistic Direction, Vocals, Environmental Recordings, Lur, Lyre, Tagalharpa, Production
Brett McCoy - Guitar, Bass, Programmed Drums, Production
Diana Risel - Nyckelharpa
